Project Overview
The Winter Creek Cabin proves that premium roofing isn't reserved for mega-mansions. This 3,200 sq ft cabin in Winter Park's Fraser Valley was designed as a year-round family retreat, and the owners wanted a roof that would perform at 9,000 feet without breaking the budget.
The Story
Thomas and Jennifer K. are Denver-based teachers who saved for a decade to build their mountain getaway. They wanted a home that was warm, inviting, and built to last — without the eight-figure price tag of Aspen or Vail. Working with a local architect, they designed a classic mountain cabin with modern efficiency. Alpine Peak was recommended by their builder, and we approached this project with the same care and precision we bring to our largest estates. The Barkwood color was selected to complement the home's natural wood siding and blend with the surrounding pine forest.
Architectural Design

Open-concept kitchen design optimized for family gatherings with mountain views
Interior Highlights
The open-concept kitchen and living area features a wood-burning fireplace with a reclaimed barn wood mantel, butcher block countertops, a farmhouse sink, and a breakfast bar overlooking the forest. The design prioritizes warmth and functionality over flash.

Roofing Details
The GAF Timberline HDZ system in Barkwood includes full StormGuard ice and water shield on all eaves, valleys, and around all penetrations. Cobra Snow Country ridge vents provide year-round ventilation, and the system carries GAF's Golden Pledge warranty. We also installed a custom copper chimney cap and cricket to prevent snow and ice buildup behind the stone chimney.
Key Features
- Full ice and water shield coverage
- Cobra Snow Country ventilation
- Custom copper chimney cap and cricket
- Cold-rated adhesives and sealants
- GAF Golden Pledge lifetime warranty
Challenges & Solutions
The Fraser Valley is one of the coldest spots in Colorado, with temperatures regularly dropping below -20°F. All adhesives and sealants had to be rated for extreme cold application. We scheduled the installation for late August to ensure optimal conditions, and the crew completed the project two days ahead of schedule.
"We're not millionaires, but Alpine Peak treated us like we were. Same crew, same quality, same attention to detail. Our little cabin has the best roof in the valley."
— Jennifer K., Homeowner
